As a former Vietnam LRRP in the early years (66-67) in the Central Highlands, I enjoy reading about other LRRP experiences. The brotherhood of LRRP'S is something that only LRRP'S understand and we were a special breed of soldiers. "Stay alive, Stay a LRRP" the enemy referred to us as the "men with painted faces" I returned to Vietnam in 92, 94, and 95 and while in Hanoi, I had dinner with a former NVA special forces officer which was in the Central Highlands the same time I was there. He indicated that his mission was to hunt for LRRP'S because we were so effective and having a major psychological affect on their soldiers that they had to set up hunter killer teams to counter our overwhelming effectiveness. This book is well written and was about as detailed as it gets. There was a second brigade LRRP by the name of sergeant Littlejohn I ran into while I was in OCS and going through Ranger orientation. Though he remembered me as a LRRP in Nam, he expected more of me and set a higher standard for me as a brother LRRP than the other officer candidates. I expected no less and he cut me no slack.
